Introduction
Microsoft Teams is introducing mandatory consent before entering a meeting, with the announcement MC1454114. Administrators can now require every participant to accept custom terms, a recording notice, or responsible AI usage guidelines, before accessing an organization’s meeting.
What the participant sees
Once the feature is enabled, all participants must accept a consent message to enter a meeting, including organizers and external guests. The message isn’t available in any language by default ; the administrator configures a default language along with up to four additional languages.

Each acceptance is logged in Purview audit logs, for governance, investigation, and transparency purposes.

What the administrator needs to configure
The feature is disabled by default and requires explicit configuration in the Microsoft Teams Admin Center. Before enabling it, Microsoft recommends to :
- Review the requirements : Examine the organization’s compliance and legal requirements.
- Configure the policy : Create, test, and preview the consent message in the supported languages.
- Notify users : Communicate about the new requirement before activation to avoid support tickets.
- Update documentation : Adjust internal procedures and documents handed to support teams.
Rollout
The rollout happens progressively :
- Targeted Release : September 2026
- Worldwide and GCC availability : Mid-October to mid-November 2026
- GCC High and DoD : Mid-November to mid-December 2026
note
Conclusion
This new consent mechanism addresses a generic compliance need, independent of recording, and adds to the consent layers already present in Teams. For organizations subject to regulatory or contractual obligations on meeting access, planning the consent text and the supported languages is worth anticipating ahead of the September rollout.
